Wolds Way Accommodation Guide
The Wolds Way is probably England's least walked National Trail and while that is a shame it can also be a benefit, especially for those seeking solitude for a few days while on an invigorating long distance walk. The Yorkshire Wolds are formed from chalk, and make an arc from the Humber estuary west of Hull up to the North Sea coast at Filey. The walk follows the arc and is typically taken from south to north which provide a spectacular finish on the cliffs of Filey Brigg. Most of the walk follows an elevated, gently rolling plateau, cut by numerous deep, steep-sided, flat-bottomed valleys of glacial origin. The chalk formation of the hills provides exceptional drainage with the result that most of the valleys are dry. Surface water is scarce throughout the Wolds Way resulting in a visually different walk than is typical of England resulting in a unique walk that is the Wolds Way.
