Jane Tomlinson Peak District Walks - Sunday 28th April 2013
Walkers of all abilities are preparing to tackle the event on Sunday 28th April which includes three different routes: The 25-mile Dambuster, the 14-mile Hope and Glory and 5-mile Mini Trekker.
Organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Walk For All, the event is back for a 2nd year after a hugely-successful 2012 debut in which around 1,000 people took part.
Hundreds have already signed up for this Spring’s event which is one of the centrepieces of Walk for All’s new Wake Up To Walking campaign – a new drive to encourage people to discover the great outdoors in a fun and safe environment.
The scenic courses will take walkers past spectacular sights including the Ladybower Reservoir, the Edale Valley, Jacobs Ladder, The Lord’s Seat and Mam Tor, and will again take place during the popular Peak District Walking & Outdoor Festival.
Sara Birkinshaw, Walk For All’s events director, said: “We were delighted with the success of last year’s Peak District Walk and lots of people are already looking forward to this year’s event – we’ve had entries from couples and individuals right up to whole families and teams of work colleagues.
“With walks ranging from 5 miles to 25 miles, there is a route to suit all abilities and everyone can enjoy the stunning scenery of this wonderful national park. It is really encouraging that so many people are showing such enthusiasm for this year’s walk and it should be a fantastic day.”
Proceeds walk entry fees will go to Jane Tomlinson Appeal – the legacy set up in the name of the inspirational fundraiser and campaigner of the same name. Walkers are encouraged, however, to choose to raise money for one of the Walk’s partner charities including Macmillan Cancer Support, Edale Mountain Rescue, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, the Breast Cancer Campaign, Diabetes UK, Heart Research UK, the RSPCA, Sheffield Hospitals, Yorkshire Cancer Research and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
The walk is once again being staged with the support of Visit Peak District & Derbyshire, the area’s official tourist board, and is supported by Northern Rail, the Yorkshire Post, the Peak District National Park Authority and Magic FM.
To sign up for the Peak District Walk go to http://www.forallevents.co.uk/walk-for-all/ Entry fees range from £8 to £20.

Huddersfield Lions Examiner Charity Challenge Sunday 19th May 2013
Since 1990, £660,914 has been raised for local charities through the Examiner Charity Challenge. We can help you to raise funds for your chosen Charity!
How does it work? Collaborating with the Huddersfield Examiner, Lions Clubs from the Huddersfield area work with Kirklees Countryside Unit, the Cycling Touring Club and the Bridleways Group to administer the event, marshal all the routes, collect the money and send it direct to the charities. We are supported on the day by St John Ambulance and Holme Valley Mountain Rescue with The Yorkshire Radio Amateurs’ Communication Network (Raynet) covering each check point so we know where all participant are.
Charities: Some 100+ charities feel the benefit and they can be large or small. A local emphasis for fundraising is encouraged but the choice is yours.
Advertising: The Huddersfield Examiner fully supports the event. Charities can request articles to go in the paper prior to the event making a massive difference to their number of sponsors. Application forms at examiner.co.uk/charitychallenge
What’s the catch? There is none. We do all the planning. You just find sponsors to walk or ride your behalf. We don’t take a percentage but charge each participant a small fee, paid at registration on the day.
There are several routes around the local countryside and setting off from Lepton Highlanders Sports Club. We have three routes for walkers including for Nordic walkers, three for cyclists, one for horse riders and a Teddy Bear Hunt for youngsters and wheelchair users at Beaumont Park. Email us for more information here. |

WDC are asking people to join them in protecting whales by Walking for Whales on Sunday 30th June 2013.
Join one of the five mile sponsored walks, taking place at 11 different Sealife centres across the UK and Scotland, with free admission to the Sea Life Centre for all those taking part!
This is a fantastic opportunity for the whole family to have a great day out and help us stop the needless and cruel whale hunts at the same time. Please sign up and start collecting your sponsorship now, and enjoy the walk on the day plus the free admission to the Sealife centre.
A staggering 30,000 whales have been killed since the international ban on commercial whaling came into effect in 1986, and now there is pressure for that ban to be lifted, which will allow even more whales to be slaughtered. All the money raised from the sponsored walk will go towards campaigning to keep the ban in place and bring an end to the killing of whales.

It would be great to add to our participants, but vitally, we’re looking for those who can help raise funds so please help us if you can.
If you would like to be a part of this great challenge, or can help fundraise for this worthiest of causes, please contact us at TeamSupport@y3p.co.uk
You can also contact us via our website at: http://www.y3p.co.uk/
It would be great to hear from you.
Heaven forbid any of us should ever need an Air Ambulance, but thank heavens this magnificent service is able to take to the skies.
About the charity: Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity providing a life-saving rapid response emergency service to five million people across Yorkshire. Flying seven days a week, 365 days a year, they cover a vast landscape that not only includes major cities and motorways, but also rural and isolated locations.
The fast medical response that the air ambulance service provides is vital to a patient who has received major trauma, especially those with head and spinal injuries, as the air ambulance can avoid traffic congestion and uneven road surfaces.
