Staffie Rescue Appeal, West Highland Way 2010
(Extract from the journal of Polly the Dog)
Boss Woman and Big Guy have decided again (they never asked me first ~ they never do ... ) that because they like mountain walking and long
distance walking, they would like to walk the West Highland Way in May 2010. Seemingly I will be going with them.
It's a 93 mile wak from Milngavie (near Glasgow) to Fort William. Boss Woman said that if people would kindly sponsor me then we could donate
the money to Staffie Rescue. If you are interested, no pressure mind, then you could send the donations to Boss Woman (made payable to
SBT Rescue) OR you could send them direct to the Staffie Rescue. I could send you a picture of me doing the walk if you want. .
How cool would that be ?
We have done many long walks before and camping as well and I liked it very much. I cuddle up to the Big Guy at night to keep warm and except
for his snoring it works out fine. Well this time because it's a longer walk than we have done before in one go, and it might rain and spoil
the walk, we are going to go Bed and Breakfast and not go camping. I like camping, but it does get cold at night and sometimes when it rains
a lot and we get wet and we can't get everything dry in the tent. I am really looking forward to it. When we do our long walks, we get to
see loads of stuff we wouldn't otherwise see and also get to meet loads of different people and some other dogs.
Last time we all did a long walk together, I raised £157 for the Staffie Rescue. Please email me if you are interested in sponsoring me.
Some people have already said they would. Great. Thank you.
The 2010 Hike 4 Hospices:
Saturday, August 21st and Sunday August 22nd, 2010
Hike 4 Hospices is a popular annual charity walk along the beautiful South Downs, raising urgently needed funds for four Sussex hospices: St Peter & St James in Lewes, St Wilfrid’s in Chichester, The Martlets in Brighton and Hove, and St Barnabas House in Worthing.
Hospices provide special support and palliative care for those nearing the end of their lives due to advanced life limiting illnesses. This vital care has its price. Hospices are not part of the NHS; as stand alone Charities they have to raise a huge proportion of their running costs to be able to offer this invaluable service to the local communities. Organised by a group of Sussex Rotary clubs, last year’s event raised a marvellous total of over £40,000 - thus donating £10,000 to each hospice.
This year's route is from Lewes to Goodwood, with various start and finishing points along the way offering differing lengths to suit all: young and old, puppies and mature four legged friends alike! This year, a 'fun' section has been added to the route between Devil's Dyke and St Botolph's of 5 miles only. Prizes will be awarded to the individual or team raising the most money for the hospices and also for the best fancy dress outfits.
For further details and online applications please visit www.hike4hospices.com after April 1st.

If you enjoy walking and want a new challenge, why not walk the Cotswold Way for charity. Set in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural
Beauty, the 102 mile route celebrates its first birthday this year as having National Trail status, making it one of Britain’s top 20
long-distance paths. Bath based homeless charity Julian House are organising such a walking challenge along the route to raise vital funds
for their work with homeless men and women.

countryside to the Roman city of Bath. Walking on average 20 miles a day, the route takes in beautiful scenery around Broadway, Winchcombe,
Cleeve Hill, Painswick, Birdlip, North Nibley and the Sodbury’s before offering magnificent views over the World Heritage city of Bath. The
challenge will be limited to 14 places and although Julian House will arrange your transport, accommodation and packed lunches – the rest is
up to you! The overall route is well marked and you will be provided with the relevant Ordnance Survey Maps so that you can confidently
navigate your own way between each stage. The event organisers will also transfer your overnight luggage for you each day, allowing you to
walk at your own pace.
Julian House is keen to ensure that the event will generate the maximum amount of support for its work with the homeless. Participants

the sponsorship target of £350 – all of which will go towards Julian House’s various projects.
