About my Outdoor Pursuits Store Guide

There are lots of stores providing gear for walking and hiking in the high streets these days, this being a result of the increasing popularity of the activity. The most prominent are Milletts, Cotswold and Blacks and all are stores I have used to buy clothing and equipment in the past. Go to a walking region and you'll find lots more, some other nationals and some local specialists. Some towns, like Keswick in the Northern Lake District seems to have little but Outdoot Pursuit Shops these days! So there is a lot of choice out there but where do we go to choose?

Like any buying activity I suppose it depends on a number of factors. Available budget, preferred brands, buying for longevity or turnover, expensive or cheapl. It's a minefield of options on what to do and I've been in that dilemma a number of times. Personally I tend to go for the middle ground so as not to be tempted by a popular logo and neither be caught with an item that falls apart just by looking at it. I have not always got it right and I don't think I ever will all of the time but by experience I think I know to buy what I consider is a good option.

My mission on these pages two fold. First is to help buyers as best I can as here is where I strive to provide a comprehensive directory of outdoor pursuits providers for walkers and hikers in particular and with emphasise on their wares, be it supplying everything one could wish to find (all encompasing) or specialist companies in equipment areas such as camping gear, clothing, boots, GPS, accessories, etc. Secondly, I will provide feedback from people who write in on their experiences of buying and without bias provide feedback pages on the good and not so good. I will not discriminate, just simply publish what you tell me.

Anyone organisation wishing to be included in the directory can contact me for inclusion on these pages. Also, see my list of advertising options which includes opportunities to feature listings on particular walks or even on particular pages. Thank you.

Note about advertisements: The overriding factor of my website is the determination to keep all the content free. Walks, photographs, movies, statistics and general information on the site will remain free to read and free to download content. Maintenance costs of the site and funding for my walking is provided by my employment and by the advertising featured on the website which, I hope, is not incumbent to the user.
