Stage Report: Robin Hood's Bay to Scarborough

Note: The daily records are from my diary written during the course of the walk with additional notes in italics.

I was up at 8.00am and after breakfast set off towards Scarborough. The sun was shining brilliantly again and after enjoying a couple of lovely coves (including Boggle Hole) I walked up to Ravenscar. It was very hot and I was sweating buckets due to last night's beer, but soldiered on to Hayburn Wyke, a secluded cove that was idyllic with a little picturesque waterfall cascading directly into the sea. After a ten minute break I walked on regardless and only began to slow when Scarborough came into sight. It was painfully slow from now on and the last three miles of cliff walking seemed an eternity. I began cursing all the ups and downs where streams ran into the sea.

I must have done 1000 man-made steps in and out of coves and bays today as well as the straightforward walking. Eventually I reached Scawby Mills and then the North Bay. A can of extortionately priced lemonade gives me my final burst of energy to reach the South Bay. I arrive at 2.10pm, thirteen days and six hours from when I set out. Two hundred and seven miles done. Waiting for me was Lil with the champagne. I enjoyed the champagne and a foot soaking in the sea. Job done, now for the next one.

I have now done the Coast to Coast twice. It is such an inspirational walk that I plan to do it again in the future. This time I will plan my own unique route. It will appear on this site when it has been walked. After the champagne it was fish and chips and then a deep sleep which I immediately fell into as soon as Lil set off from Scarborough to take me home.
