Summary
The Little John Challenge Walk takes a route through Sherwood Forest which, according to folklore, was the heart of Robin Hood country. Little John was one of Robin’s trusty “Merrie Men.” Sherwood Forest — which includes woodland, gorges, meandering rivers, and trickling streams — provides the backdrop for a walk that also visits historic houses, revered sites, places of worship, parks, and local villages. From the start of the walk in Edwinstowe, locations visited include the Major Oak (Queen Oak), Sherwood Forest Country Park National Nature Reserve, Budby South Forest, Church Warsop, Cuckney, Norton, The Kiln Wood, Holbeck Woodhouse, Holbeck, Cresswell Crags, Welbeck Abbey, Duchess Plantation, Clumber Park, Hardwick Village, Bothamsall, Robin Hood’s Cave, Ollerton, and Lidgett. Much of the route follows the Robin Hood’s Way path.
