Introduction:

Offa's Dyke Path, while not being the longest of the National Trails, is one of the most attractive and varied. The route crosses high wild moorland, attractive well cultivated wide river valleys and ancient woodland. It passes through historic towns and isolated hamlets. En route can be seen hill forts, castles, abbeys and surviving remains of the habitations of former occupants of the beautiful corridor of the path. The flora and fauna are as rich and as varied as the scenery. At the halfway point in Knighton is the Offa's Dyke Centre with its Interactive Exhibition for the Dyke and a range of services for walkers. (Extract from Offa's Dyke Association)

The best web sites for General Information and Planning:

Offa's Dyke Association An independent voluntary organisation. It provides an excellent listing of all types of information necessary to prospective walkers of the Offa's Dyke Path.

A Discerning Traveller Another site providing a full range of self guided services.

The best web sites for you to plan your accommodation:

S H Systems Excellent range of accommodation. Just type in the location to bring up a list of accommodation in the area. You can sort them by price, postcode or rating.
Offa's Dyke Association A comprehensive list of accommodation available on the site.
Offa's Dyke Co Uk Another comprehensive list, sorted by location of stage start/ finish.

(Note - finding suitable walkers accommodation on the web is a minefield. It is best to search for accommodation by searching for it in a specific place. If you don't then you will spend ages wasting your time trawling large databases and getting nowhere fast. I have done so many times. In my experience S H Systems has proved to be most useful)

The best personal journals of the walk:

Walter Trimble Walter can always be relied on to provide an interesting journal.
George Tod George's reports, with added information are always an essential read.
John Gillatt John provides an excellent journal with lots of added information.
Phil Andrews A journal of the walk with each individual stage described.
Zamberlan A good journal with details of where stayed and even what was eaten!
Thann and Jennifer Ward A super journal of the walk with photographs.

Ramblers Association Practical walking advice including a guide to map reading, navigation and a detailed list of the essential gear required on a long distance walk.
