We did a circular walk from Malham, going anti-clockwise to Janets Foss....Malham cove back to Malham....thus only going down those famous steps!! The number of people that spoke to us when on our way down who wish they had done the same. Beautiful part of the country, fantastic views.

Hi, Last summer I had never climbed a mountain and during a drive to Anglesey seeing the sign posts to Snowdonia I commented to my wife that I fancy doing Snowdon so I arranged it with 3 friends and went on a camping trip to climb Snowdon in September 2015. I loved it so I spent winter researching more walks and mountains specifically. I did the Three Yorkshire Peaks at Easter 2016 and completed the National Three Peaks by July, all arranged with friends. Over the last few months I have climbed a further ten mountains, several with just my dog, all based on your walks. Giving me the routes on your website is really useful and appreciated in a practical way but what I really wanted to thank you for was for giving me the confidence to do these trips by myself. I don't think I'd have done many of these trips if I had not been an avid reader of your website which incidentally made me realise that not having a consistent group of friends to do it with is fine and often going alone or not at all is the only option. You make no show of going alone it is just part of your hobby which really helped me, because of you Ziggy (my dog) and I have become regulars on top of mountains in the Lakes and Snowdonia. I am lucky to live in Manchester where I can get to several excellent national parks and particularly mountains in 2 hours and under. So thanks again and keep up the good work, your website is fantastic. (PS: My wife is less happy now she is a mountain widow every few weekends of the summer)

Thanks for this website, I have done 30 or so walks from it using the GPX files (I found it whilst searching for downloads for the GPS). We are about to travel to train in the Peak District building up to next year's Four Inns - an event my father intends to finally complete aged 67 having got lost in bad conditions in the 1960s!

Hello, I would like to thank you for these walks, you have done a brilliant job of not only recording the walks, but the bonus is having such excellent descriptions, so that, they can be followed without the need for a satnav. We are spending a couple of days at Settle in a few weeks time and are looking to do walks from the rail stations. I notice that you have at least one but these are clear really only from the full walk description. My suggestion would be to include in the walk title (Rail) so that such walks could be easily identified as I know that there are quite a lot of walkers who use the trains midweek. Hello, my boyfriend and I are doing your walk tomorrow hoping to see Thor's Cave, I wouldn't say we are first time walkers and we often go on walks along our local countryside and woodland areas (Roche Valley, Ashworth Valley, Greenbooth and Knowle Hill). We went to the Lake District last summer and enjoyed lots of walks there, we stayed in Cumbria and walked to Piel Island, well not the actual island so to speak because the tide was in. I would recommend a trip there as there is a pub on this island and I think only three people live on it. The landlord of the pub is considered "the king of Piel Island" and he can make you a knight of Piel island, which I'm not sure if it's a recognized honour but it's fun all the same.

Worth a mention. A realy good walk up Pen-y-ghent and Plover Hill, We went when it was pouring down and the aim was to reach the summit when the cloud was breaking and the rain had stopped. It did just that. So Fab views. Start at Horton, walk to Helwith Bridge via the Ribble Way, take the route up Pen-y-ghent via Churn Milk Hole, walk over to Plover Hill and descend to pick up the path to Horton via Hull Pot. Large hot chocolate in cafe after!! Just over 12 miles, great views and quiet except for on Pen-y-ghent summit.

Hi, I have been using your website for I do not know how many years. I use it at least once a week on my days off for walking routes I otherwise would not of known of. In three weeks time I will be starting my first long distance walk, the Coast to Coast from St Bees Head to Robin Hoods Bay and I want to thank you for all the preparation you have provided me for the walk. Your information and guidance for preparation of walks and then the actual walk preparation has been extremely helpful.
I live in Knaresborough and cannot think of a more ideal base to start from as, thanks to you, I can be in so many remote locations or an urban walk in such little time. Though one of my favourite places to walk is the Brecon Beacons, this aside I do love Yorkshire. Thanks again.

Just got back from the walk you described Tideswell Dale, Millers Dale (Monsal Trail) and Monks Dale. We parked at Millers Dale car park and went up through Monks Dale to Tideswell for lunch then back via Tideswell Dale and the Monsal Trail. I clocked the distance at 7.44 although we did wander slightly off course just outside Tideswell. Monks Dale is a real treat, tough going but really worth it only came across eight people (not bad for Good Friday). I would say that the only disappointing bit was the number of cyclists on the Monsal Trail, who seem to think that the trail was invented for them. Thanks for the route, and the aches and pains. Time for a pint!

What an absolute gem of a find this site has been. I have been walking with clubs for a few years but wanted to venture out on my own and walk where I want at my own pace. After purchasing a Garmin GPS device and a few OS maps I set out to load my device with some Known GPX file walks . This site has been excellent for me and getting my 75 year old dad out and about in my area. The routes are spot on and the walk detail and info is very accurate. I simply just download the GPX files into my device, print the map and off we go.....never been let down yet with the provided data. Thank you so much....keep up the great work.

May I say what a wonderful website you have created here. I am just about to set off from Teesside to Patterdale, hoping to reach the summit of the famous Helvellyn via Striding Edge then down Swirral Edge. I am taking my beloved Rocco for company, he is a two year old Shar Pei, who along with myself have managed to conquer most of the mountains over the 800m range in the Lake District in the snow. But this is our first on Helvellyn in these conditions. Having read your stories and fantastic descriptions of these famous walks, it gives me great incentive to the challenge ahead. Mike, I just have to say thanks for a wonderful website and resource you have provided. I have recently come across your website looking for walks nr Keswick for a week in May. I retired in July 2015 and had not done any serious walking until October last year. My cousin, a recently retired solicitor is a keen walker and done most of the National Trails; so I joined him for a week walking the Yorkshire Dales. The Bracken Way, 95 mile circular walk starting and finishing at Settle via Malham, Kettlewell, West Burton, Askrigg, Hawes, Dent, Ingleton and then back to Settle. I have got the walking bug now. Looking forward to Lake District in May for another week of selected walks. Your website is going to be very useful planning the days. We will be based at Whittbarrow.
